Our Story

The Kaporovsky family may not have realized the legacy they were building when they opened their high-quality kosher creamery near downtown Montréal in 1936. They started out in a modest brick building on the corner of Saint-Urbain and Duluth streets (now home to Café Santropol), and they started with a simple mission: To focus on making the very best kosher dairy products possible. They named the company “Liberté” in remembrance of their first hopeful glimpse at the Statue of Liberty during their passage to Ellis Island. Over the century, Liberté flourished thanks to an enthusiastic community of connoisseurs.

When, in the 1980s, we refocused our efforts on yogurt, we stayed true to the Kaporovsky family’s mission of excellence and distinction. We make high-quality, luxurious yogurt with simple, noble flavors and a clean, pure finish. Yogurt carefully and artfully cultured and made only with the finest ingredients.

The Kaporovsky family’s uncompromising devotion to process and perfection is the very definition of artisanship. Today, as we handcraft Liberté, we still hold ourselves to the Kaporovsky’s high standards of technique, taste and quality.

We select only the best and most essential ingredients. At Liberté, we craft our recipes under watchful eyes and experienced palates until it’s reached a perfect velvety consistency and clean, pure flavor. Our focus is on our yogurt first, and we let our passionate adorers spread the word for us. This devotion to product is why Liberté is—and always has been—impossibly divine.
